The course aims to create an understanding of the  MOOCs in within the Higher Education environment. The course is structured Rhizomaticly  in order to foster shared meaning of the topic under inquiry.

This course aims to create and/or enhance the learner’s knowledge on “Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and the South African higher education landscape”. The course uses a rhizomatic approach, meaning that the curriculum and learning assessment is determined by the learner whilst the instructor provides the syllabus or outline of the course. Unlike the common formal learning structure, the learning outcomes will only be realised at the end of the course. In this way this course pushes the terms “heutagogy” and “learner-centeredness” to its limits (and maybe beyond).

In addition, the knowledge generated in this course will be published in a book. All participants (contributors) in the course will be part of the author list in this book titled [MOOCs and the South African Higher Education Landscape].

    VALAUBLE EXPERIENCE

    I want to thank Frederick for this course. I have learned a lot about MOOC’s and it was interesting to read the blogs of my peers, from which I also learned.
    It was at times a bit frustrating that the peers in the group did not respond.
    It was relaxing not to be concerned about ‘strict’ due dates and also to know that I am doing this course for myself to be more knowledgeable about MOOCs and online learning.
